About Us
Our company began in 1980 as a project of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival operating the merchandise tent at the festival and providing year-round national distribution for independent artists who frequented the festival circuit. In 1993 Festival Distribution Inc. was formed as a separate entity and moved out of the Folk Festival office and into our warehouse space in East Vancouver. Our roster grew to include releases by many artists and labels from around the world, from artists beginning their careers to veteran performers with extensive catalogues and near legendary status. Loreena McKennitt, Ani Difranco, Michael Buble, Stan Rogers, The Be Good Tanyas; all were part of the Festival Distribution roster. In 1997 we launched our own label Jericho Beach Music with the release of Compadres by James Keelaghan and Oscar Lopez. Jericho Beach has now produced more than 20 titles by artists such as the Wailin’ Jennys, Tanya Tagaq, and Alpha Yaya Diallo.
In July of 2008 we closed down our distribution operations and switched our focus to our label and our newest venture: therecordtent.com. We like to think of the Record Tent as getting back to our roots. After all, formats change. We know. We shipped records and cassettes too. What hasn’t changed is the joy of experiencing live music in a park along with thousands of other smiling people, of seeing your favorite band for the first time live or discovering an artist you had never heard of before and wanting to take that music home to enjoy all year round. Helping you bring the festival home is what we’ve been doing for over 20 years. We hope you find this latest method useful.
