Sweet Water Women
Sweet Water Women, comprised of Darlene, Marilyn, Linda and Deborah, came together like the rivers of the land. Each traveled her own path; over rocks, through valleys, around bends, bubbling and flowing, until finally reaching the body of water that would contain and express them all together --Sweet indeed! Sweet Water Women believe "...the work of music goes beyond entertainment." All the songs on the Sweet Water CD are original Sweet Water Women songs.
Sweet Water Women each come from different cultures and backgrounds, and developed their own distinct style of singing. The Drum was always at the centre of their music, but they also expressed themselves through harmony, chants, shakers, bells, didgeridoo, bodhran, flute, or just about anything that would make sound. “We send our songs out as sacred prayers of gratitude and respect to All of Creation.”
Sweet Water Women have sung together over the years in traditional drumming Circles in the Greater City of Sudbury, Ontario, where women gather to share songs and teachings. These songs are shared at pow wows, hospitals, wakes, weddings, festivals, celebrations and ceremonies. They performed at Sky Dome Pow-Wow (Canadian Aboriginal Festival), Mariposa Festival, CBC Radio One -- Routes Montreal -- Live, Blue Skies Festival, Northern Lights, Earth Works, Farm Fest, to name only a few.
